Marlborough’s Tough Ten Mile Turkey Trot Fun Run

To benefit the Marlboro Food Pantry

On Sunday, November 27, 2005, over fifty runners arrived to Ghiloni Park in Marlboro to partake in the first annual Tough Ten Mile Turkey Trot. All participants were asked to donate 10 can goods for the Marlboro Food Pantry which distributes rations to the needy families in greater Marlboro. Over 700 can goods were gathered from those participating in today’s event.

Upon arriving to the facilities, the runners quickly noticed the hilly terrain and realized where the title’s name originated. The weather was perfect, sunny and 30 degrees with little wind.

Right from the start of the race, an early lead pack quickly was established with Scott Leslie (Worcester), Nick Edmonds (Lunenberg) and Marlboro High speedster Sonny Gamble. Right around the seven mile mark, Scott attacked the mile long hill on Hosmer Street and pulled away from his competitors. Scott continued his blistering pace all the way to the finish and broke the course record by almost five minutes, with a time of 59.42.

The sponsors of this race were the Marlboro High track teams, The Marlboro Recreation Department, The highland City Striders and Hanaford’s Supermarkets.

Come and enjoy a tough, beautiful, ten mile course through the backroads of both Marlborough and Hudson. Your registration fee is simply one can good for each mile you run! All cans will be donated to the Marlboro Food Pantry, which issues rations to those in need during the holiday season!
