Take a position: Should Latin be a required course at AMSA, or should we offer multiple languages and allow choice? Take a position and write two reasons why Latin should be required or not. Remember you must make a minimum of three posts to get full credit. :/

AMSA should allow students to be required to take Latin because after you master Latin, English will come easier because English has Latin roots. It will also help them if they choose science as their career

I think we should'nt have required latin classes. I think they should give us choices on what language we want to learn so we can share different cultures. I also think that so we can all succeed in a different language and not just latin.

Latin should be a required course at AMSA.It should be because most students don't know muhc about latin and people should know a lot about it.Also,
another reason is thst a lot of words have latin roots so for some students who moved here from a different country
they can learn more about Latin and English.

I made a different one since the whole thing of my first one didn't show.

Latin should be rewuired because a lot of students son't know about latin nd should learn about it because it is a good laguage.Another reason is that latin has a lot of roots in English words so it will help poeple in English and Latin.

I disagree with you because latin has a lot of information about it's culture and traditions and will help you at one point.

I disagree with both Matt and Amy. we should have our own free choice of languages. It will help us throughout our lifes, trust me! For the people that said, "It will help us improve our English vocabulary because English has roots from Latin," if we decide to Spanish or French or ANY other language, most of them, English has roots from them. So even if you want to continue to choose to study Latin throughout high school at AMSA, I don't really care, but this is why I think Latin is not that big of a necessity. :D

I highly disagree with the building blocks part. Latin, though mosst of its root from English and vis versa, is NOT the building blocks of all languages.

Even though Latin might be fun to learn, it doesn't mean it would help you much with your life (for some people).

BTW, I think AMSA  does offer French and Spanish, though I'm not sure. They do offer Manderin Chinese, though! :D

How will it help you if they choose to be scientists. My dad is a chemistist, and by far, he never had to use Latin. AMybe if you are a MARINE, THAT I could understand!

I SOO agree with you Ricardo. Everything you said about cultures is true. In History, we all already learning about different types of cultures and (most of us) went through Mesopotamia especially! ;)

I think that we should have multiple languges to choose from because then whats the point of lerning another languge at all?  Latin isnt the only languge that people speak! There are lots of other languges that people speak fluently now! For example: French, french canadian, spanish, manderin chinse, japanise, german, and portiagise! Whats the point of learning a languige if you cant choose???????????????

Well, I think AMSA should not have a required latin class.  I think think AMSA should have options because if the students dont enjoy what they are learning they will not do as well because they dont really care what is happening in latin class.  Another reason that there should be options is because most people these days dont speak latin so you are basicly learning a new language for nothing.
